MONUMENTAL PIECES

ALLEGORY OF THE CHURCH

In 1985, the sculptor Javier Morales was entrusted with the creation of this great mural-altarpiece. It is placed in a private Oratory of Madrid.

The hands of God create this material world made up of his powerful love, symbolically placed in large earthenware jars. Two groups of females emerge from them, symbol of the fertility of human generations that are born into this life, and with their backs to us, those that submerge into the loving strength of Creation.

St. John the Baptist with an open book, symbol of the Gospel and the Apocalypse. The composition ends on the bow of a boat, clear symbol of the Church. The Apostles are on the boat and hold in their hands the message of God the Father through Jesus.

From the hands of God descends the central figure of Jesus, who casts his message of love to humanity. Next to him there are two groups: On one side Mary the Mother of Jesus and Mary Magdalene. On the other St. Peter, Hercules, ideological maker of the Church.

At the feet of Jesus, St. Peter brings his Christian message to the Christian community.

Death and sin defeated by Redention's love.

ALLEGORY OF THE MYSTICAL LIFE

This monumental grouping was placed in the Almudena Cathedral of Madrid in 1992. Each one of the figures weighs approximately 2860 pounds. The Angels are nearly 3 meters tall.

The Angel on the left is the Angel of the Annunciation who is coming down to greet Mary and hand her the God’s message of redemption to the world.

Its throne is square, to symbolize the world, surrounded by four children, in representation of the four seasons, the four elements, the four cardinal points, the four rivers. Therefore, Mary is enthroned in space. At her feet there are three heads of angels, representing the past –present –future. Mary enthroned in time. She holds a university scroll, symbol of academia, science and knowledge.

The Angel on the right is the transfigured mystic angel which ascends smiling to Heaven.
